What could Mount Foodie be worth to your restaurant?

What getting new hires up to speed costs you

For their first few months, a new hire gets full pay but works at about 75% of a trained server’s level. That 25% gap costs you money every time someone new starts.

An estimate based on your numbers and the assumptions below, not a promise.

Our assumptions

  • While they get up to speed, a new hire works at about 75% of a trained server’s level: slower, less sure of the menu, less comfortable with guests.
  • A new hire works 35 hours a week.
  • Labour cost is about $21.50 an hour. That’s BC’s $18.25 minimum wage plus what you pay on top of it: CPP, EI, WorkSafeBC, vacation pay and stat holiday pay.
  • Better-trained servers raise your average bill by about 5%. If your staff study the menu and practise their upsells for a few minutes a day, 5% is a realistic goal.

What we didn’t count

These matter, but we can’t put an honest number on them, so they’re not in your total:

  • Better reviews and more guests coming back
  • Fewer dishes sent back or comped
  • Less of your managers’ time spent re-teaching the menu
  • Servers who know your allergens

Where the numbers come from
